Illinois Medicare Assistance Programs
Illinois also offers a host of Medicare assistance programs that can help residents of Illinois cover the out-of-pocket costs of medical expenses such as premiums, copayments, deductibles and even prescription costs.
The Illinois Department of Health Care and Family Services can help direct low-income residents of Illinois to the programs. Those enrollees in Illinois Medicare programs who qualify can also apply for the Illinois Medicaid program. This is a state funded program available to help pay the medical expenses incurred by the Illinois Medicare enrollees.
Illinois also has the Senior Health Insurance Program, or SHIP, which offers counseling services to those individuals who qualify for Medicare but need help with the Medicare information or determining which program is right for them.
