What is Medicare SELECT?
Medigap is overseen by the federal government but the actual plans are provided by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. Medigap plans offer different ways for individuals on Medicare to get help to pay their Medicare copayment, coinsurance, deductible and other expenses.
For some seniors who want an even lower-cost option, the Medicare Select program can provide an alternative. Medicare Select is available in some states and generally costs less than the other Medigap plans.
What’s the difference between the programs? Medigap Select programs require enrollees to use hospitals and clinics in its network in order to receive full benefits unlike other Medigap plans. In some cases, Medigap Select options also require enrollees to only use physicians who are part of the network. The primary exception, of course, is in cases of emergency.
